Casio is commemorating its 50th anniversary by reintroducing the iconic Casiotron watch model. Initially launched in 1974, the Casiotron was celebrated as the world's first digital wristwatch with an automatic calendar function. Now, in a limited release of 4,000 units globally, the revived Casiotron pays homage to its predecessor while integrating Casio's latest technological advancements.
The updated Casiotron retains the classic design elements of the original while incorporating modern features such as radio wave reception, Tough Solar charging, and Smartphone Link capabilities. While the 1974 version solely offered an automatic calendar function, the 2024 edition boasts enhanced functionalities. Visually, the new Casiotron maintains the essence of its inspiration from 1974, albeit with a darker dial color. Notable differences include the presence of four buttons on the watch case compared to the original's single button at the 3:30 position.
Demonstrating Casio's commitment to sustainability, the timepiece is accompanied by special packaging crafted from plastic-free and eco-friendly paper, reducing plastic usage by 82% compared to conventional packaging methods. Priced at £449 GBP (approximately $564 USD), the revamped Casiotron is now available for purchase through the official Casio UK website: Casio UK
